Depletion of gaseous CO in protoplanetary disks by surface-energy-regulated ice formation

چکیده

Empirical constraints of fundamental properties protoplanetary disks are essential for understanding planet formation and planetary (1,2). Carbon monoxide (CO) gas is often used to constrain disk (3). However, estimates show that the CO abundance in depleted relative expected values (4,5,6,7), models various processes impacting could not explain this depletion on observed 1Myr timescales (8,9,10,11,12,13,14). Here we demonstrate surface energy effects particles disks, such as Kelvin effect, arise when ice heterogeneously nucleates onto an existing particle can efficiently trap its phase. In previous models, was released small ice-coated were lofted warmed layers. Our model reproduce abundance, distribution time evolution gaseous four most studied (7). We solid inventory at midplane diffusivities resolve inconsistencies mass -- three crucial parameters control formation.

Turbulent-diffusion Mediated CO Depletion in Weakly Turbulent Protoplanetary Disks

Volatiles, especially CO, are important gas tracers of protoplanetary disks (PPDs). Freeze-out and sublimation processes determine their division between gas and solid phases, which affects both which disk regions can be traced by which volatiles, and the formation and composition of planets. Recently, multiple lines of evidence have suggested that CO is substantially depleted from the gas in t...

H2CO and N2H+ in Protoplanetary Disks: Evidence for a CO-Ice Regulated Chemistry

We present Submillimeter Array observations of H2CO and N2H + emission in the disks around the T Tauri star TW Hya and the Herbig Ae star HD 163296 at 2–6 resolution and discuss the distribution of these species with respect to CO freeze-out. The H2CO and N2H + emission toward HD 163296 does not peak at the continuum emission center that marks the stellar position but is instead significantly o...

Cold CO Gas in Protoplanetary Disks

In a disk around DM Tau, previous observation of CO (J = 2− 1 and 1− 0 transitions) derived the CO gas temperature of ∼ 13−20K, which is lower than the sublimation temperature of CO (20 K). We argue that the existence of such cold CO can be explained by a vertical mixing of disk material. As the gas is transported from a warm layer to a cold layer, CO is depleted onto dust grains with a timesca...

Fragmentation of Gravitationally Unstable Gaseous Protoplanetary Disks with Radiative Transfer

We report on the results of the first 3D SPH simulation of massive, gravitationally unstable protoplanetary disks with radiative transfer. We adopt a flux-limited diffusion scheme justified by the high opacity of most of the disk. The optically thin surface of the disk cools as a blackbody. The disks grow slowly in mass starting from a Toomre-stable initial condition to the point at which they ...
